Who We Are

Model Degree College, Nayagarh is the brain child of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Odisha.This has been established vide Govt. Letter No.22280,Dt 06-08-2016 .This is one of the eight such colleges established in different districts which are behind GER (Gross Enrolment Ratio) in higher education. The Government has permitted exclusively honours teaching at +3 Degree level in three streams of Arts, Commerce and science. The college started functioning in the year 2016 from temporary campus at Itamati college of Education and Technology situated at Itamati, Nayagarh. The permanent campus of the college was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Odisha through video conferencing on 10th August 2017 and thereafter the college shifted to its permanent campus at Lathipada, Nayagarh. The campus sprawls in about 07 acres of land amidst the most scenic and serene environment of Lathipada village, on the way to Ranpur, which is about 3KM away from Pratap Prasad or Majuriapalli ( which falls in between Itamati and Ghadual bus stop on the National Highway No-57). Approximately it is about 85 KMs from Bhubaneswar and about 8KMs away from the district Headquarters of Nayagarh. The Administrative-cum-Academic building is gigantic, 3-storeyed and the unique of its kind in the Nayagarh district. The first batch of the college stared with 300 students during the session 2016-17.The college was inaugurated in its temporary campus by Sri P.K.Das, Additional Secretary to the Government, Department of Higher Education, Odisha on 25th August 2016.The founder principal of the college is Dr. Seetanshu Kumar Samal, Associate Professor of Chemistry. Since its inception, the college has been adding new feathers every now and then. The Government has been kind enough to provide all kinds of support for the betterment of the college. Very recently, the Government in Higher Education Department has declared our college as a SAMS Resource Centre (SRC).
