Who We Are

Model Degree College, Nayagarh is the brain child of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Odisha. This has been established vide Govt. Letter No. 22280,dated 06-08-2016.This is one of the eight such colleges established in different districts which are behind GER(Gross enrolment ratio)in higher education. The Government has permitted exclusively honours teaching at +3 Degree level in three streams of Arts, Commerce and science.

At present, the college is functioning in its temporary campus at Itamati college of Education and Technology situated at Itamati, Nayagarh. Its permanent campus is coming up at Lathipada which sprawls in about 07 actres of land situated in a most scenic and serene environment. It is about 3KM away from Itamati and situated on the left side of the road towards Sarankul.it is about 85 KMs from Bhubaneswar and about 3KMs away from the district headquarters of Nayagarh. The Administrative-cum-Academic building is gigantic, 3-storeyed and the unique of its kind in the Nayagarh district.The first batch of the college stared with 300 students during the session 2016-17.

The college was inaugurated in its temporary campus by Sri P.K.Das, Additional secretary to the Government, department of Higher Education, Odisha on 25th August 2016.The founder principal of the college is Dr. Seetanshu Kumar Samal, Associate Professor of Chemistry. Since its inception, the college adds new feathers every now and then under his able leadership. The Government has been kind enough to provide all kinds of support for the betterment of the college. Very recently, the Government in Higher education department has declared our college as a SAMS Resource Centre(SRC).

1. EVS is AECC for all students(for science in 1st Semester;For arts and commerce in 2nd semester)
2. English(Arts and Science)/Communication English(Commerce):To be taught in 2nd semester
3. MIL(odia):For all streams(2nd semester)
4. Generic elective: Students can take GE from the subjects mentioned under honours only(In no case from English and Odia) in their stream.
